# Instagram

Connect your Instagram business or creator account so Eirin reads comments on your posts and reels, and can reply to them in your voice.

Connecting Instagram lets Eirin read what players say on your own account: the comments on your posts and reels, read alongside each caption. Once connected, Eirin can also reply to comments for you (see [Set up auto-replies](/eirin-ai-docs/getting-started/set-up-auto-replies.md)). You don't need to type anything in. You just sign in to your Instagram account once, from inside Eirin.

{% hint style="info" %}
Instagram only appears in **Sources** when it is turned on for your studio. If you don't see it, reach out to the Eirin team.
{% endhint %}

## Before you start

* You need an Instagram **business or creator** account for your game or studio. Personal accounts can't be connected.
* You need to be the agent's manager. Only the manager can connect or disconnect sources.
* You need to be able to log in to the Instagram account, because you give access from inside Instagram.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Switch Instagram on

Open the agent's profile and click the **Sources** tab (or use the **Sources** step while hiring). Under **Community**, switch on **Instagram**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Connect your account

Click **Connect Instagram**. Instagram opens so you can sign in and give access, and then you're sent back to Eirin.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Check the connection

Back on the Sources tab, the Instagram row shows the account as connected. A small label shows progress while Eirin collects your existing comments for the first time. Click **Save sources** if you changed anything else.

To switch accounts later, click **Disconnect / use a different account** and connect again.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## What Eirin reads from Instagram

* Your posts and reels from the last 7 days, with their captions, so each comment is read in context
* Comments and replies on those posts, with who wrote them, their likes and the time
* Whether Instagram has hidden a comment

Eirin checks every hour. It doesn't collect mentions, story replies or direct messages, and it doesn't pick up comments on posts older than a week. For the full list of data, see [What we track](/eirin-ai-docs/reference/what-we-track.md).

## Replying on Instagram

Replies are **off by default**. Turn them on for each account under **Reply setup → Social connections** on the agent's profile. Eirin then answers public comments on posts and reels, with one reply per person per post. Replies never include a link, because Instagram hides comments that contain one. Replies only apply to new comments: comments already on your posts are left alone. Full details are in [Set up auto-replies](/eirin-ai-docs/getting-started/set-up-auto-replies.md).

## Security and control

* You give Lysto access through Instagram's own login. You never share your password with Eirin.
* The access lets Eirin read your posts and comments, and manage comments so it can reply. Eirin doesn't publish posts or stories.
* **Remove access at any time:** click **Disconnect / use a different account** on the Sources tab, or remove Lysto under **Apps and websites** in your Instagram settings.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://eirin-ai.gitbook.io/eirin-ai-docs/connect-your-sources/instagram.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
